Pushpa Khanna
Daughter of  Joti Prasad Khanna and Vidya Wati, Prof. Dr.Pushpa Khanna was born on 3 December 1928. She graduated from the University of Rajasthan with Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, and earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Oregon, Eugene. she did post doctoral studies in medical plant tissue culture at the University of Nebraska in1966

A lecturer with the government of Rajasthan until 1961, she then began working with the University  of  Rajasthan , where she rose the position of professor in 1983 From 1981 to 1987, she was also the principal of University College After retiring in1988 , she began developing the Hypoglycemic Polypeptide-p-from  Momordica  Charantia, which was patented in1974 as an injectable showing insulin-like-action In 1992, the Polypeptide-p was made sublingual and patented again with the changed process. Now, it has been screened against 5000 patents suffering from diabetes with no side effect whatsoever This development was carried out with very meager facilities without any financial aid Animal screening done by a company in California has confirmed  the result. Now the technology is ready to be transferred to any herbal national or multinational company

In addition, Prof. Dr. Khanna holds a patent for an anti-fertility drug for males made from the plant source. Rathore .Egpt.j.pharma.sci1980):sapogenins from in vitro tissue of yucca aloefolia” (withP.Purohit, Proc. intl.cong Held in Calcutta,1982)”and”An infertility agent from in vivo tissue culture of Pisum sativum L.” (With P.Kumar, Proc.of 6th intel Assoc.Pl.Tissue Cell Cuture,1986).

Honored with the United State National Institute Of Health Postdoctoral Fellowship in1966.she won a Distinguished Leadership Award from the American Biographical Institute in1977 . An associate member of sigma X1 Oragan Chapter ,She is the fellow of the National Academy of Science (Allahabad) and the Indian Botanical Society. The Department of Human Resources, Government of India selected her to lead a student delegation in the youth programme of the festival on India held in the USSR in 1997 . She also hold membership in Indian Society of Plant Physiology, Pharma. National Association of Plant Cell and Organ Culture ,and the Indian Science Congress Association ,of which she is life member

Having participated in many conferences  throughout  her career such as the international  Association on Plant Tissue and Cell Culture held in Minnesota U.S.A in 1986, she has held office at three international  congress held at  Leicester ,England in July 1974  chair of one of the concurrent session of the fourth International Congress on Plant Tissue and Cell Culture held in Calgary in July 1978 ;and chair one of the concurrent session of the Sixth International Congress on Plant Cell and Tissue Culture held in Minnesota. U.S.A.in July 1986.
